There is something completely magical about a spring newborn session. As the world outside begins to wake up, bringing fresh energy and new life, it feels like the absolute perfect time to welcome a brand-new little soul into the world.

Recently, the studio was transformed into a serene, earthy wonderland for a beautiful baby boy’s newborn experience. His parents wanted a vibe that was grounded and cozy, yet filled with a sense of wonder. The result? A whimsical, boho mushroom fantasy theme brought to life with a rich, modern color palette of matte black, warm beige, and deep botanical greens.

A Whimsical Woodland Fantasy (With a Boho Twist)

To create a “mushroom fantasy” that still felt beautifully styled and upscale, we focused on high-quality, organic textures over cheesy props.

We styled a dreamlike forest nook right in the comfort of our climate-controlled studio. Little baby boy was safely nestled inside a hand-woven boho basket, surrounded by soft, preserved moss, delicate faux ferns, and beautiful, artisan-crafted wooden and felt mushrooms. The combination of natural textures gave the entire setup a storybook feel—as if a tiny, perfect woodland elf was discovered sleeping soundly on the forest floor.

No newborn session is complete without those sweet intimate details. We took nine of our favorites for these to create a beautiful wall art piece for thier living room.

The Perfect Mix: A Curated Client Closet Meets Heartfelt Details

One of the best parts of the studio experience is removing all the stress of what to dress your new baby in. For this session, we pulled exclusively from our curated studio client closet, selecting the perfect organic cotton wraps, textured beige rompers, and deep green knit caps that beautifully matched our whimsical woodland palette.

But while I love providing the high-end textures and designer attire, I always encourage parents to bring a personal element to weave into the story. Because his parents chose a whimsical, fantasy-themed mushroom motif for his nursery at home, they wanted to carry a piece of that design story into his first professional portraits.

To honor that beautiful connection, we spent a portion of the session focusing on a few incredibly sentimental details. Along with the forest floor setups, his parents brought a beautiful, delicate crocheted teddy bear that had been gifted to him. Nestled right next to him in the basket, it added the perfect layer of deeply personal storytelling to the gallery.

Why an In-Studio Experience Was Perfect for This Vibe

While a spring woodland theme sounds like it belongs outdoors, creating this look in the studio offered the best of both worlds:

• Total Comfort & Safety: Spring weather in Colorado can be incredibly unpredictable. Inside the studio, the temperature was perfectly balmy, the white noise was humming, and this sweet boy slept like an absolute dream through every single transition.
• Flawless Creative Control: Building a fantasy setup requires precise lighting to capture that moody, whimsical depth. Studio lighting allowed us to mimic the soft, filtered light of a forest canopy, casting gorgeous shadows and highlighting every tiny eyelash and newborn curl.
• A Relaxing Haven for Parents: While we carefully curated each setup, mom and dad got to sit back, relax on the studio couch, and watch their little sprout star in his very own storybook.

Creating Family Heirlooms from Tiny Details

While baby asleep is so sweet. Those little eyes on mama have my heart.

This session was a beautiful reminder that newborn portraits don’t have to fit into a standard mold. By blending a family’s love for bohemian, earthy aesthetics with a touch of childhood wonder, we created a gallery that is truly one-of-a-kind. These rich greens, blacks, and beiges are going to look absolutely stunning printed as custom wall art and preserved in a luxury linen album to be looked back on for decades.
