Designing with Intention: The In-Home Consultation

Before a camera ever came out of the bag for one recent first-time family, we sat down together in their home to dream about what they wanted to see on their walls every day. Walking through their space gave us a clear canvas and a shared vision.

Their nursery featured a sweet, rustic “Over the Moon” farm aesthetic. Because we knew this beforehand, we incorporated a charming little moon and baby cow setup into the session—creating portraits that felt like a natural, whimsical extension of the nursery they had lovingly prepared.

Central Statement: The Family Room

Every home has a heartbeat, and for this family, it was their main living room. We identified a prime focal wall—the kind of spot that immediately catches your eye the moment you walk through the door.

To honor the start of their family story, we envisioned a large, striking black-and-white statement piece. We selected a contemporary metal finish that brought clean, modern luminosity to the image while complementing the room’s warm textures. It serves as an anchor for the space: timeless, bold, and an everyday reminder of the moment their family began.

A Meaningful Thank You: A Gift for Grandma

Welcoming a newborn takes a village, and this family had an incredible mother-in-law who traveled out to offer hands-on love and support during those tender early weeks.

With the holidays approaching, the parents wanted to give her something far more enduring than a standard gift. We designed a cohesive three-piece desk and shelf collection highlighting their favorite moments from the session—a tangible, heartfelt thank-you that lets her relive those newborn snuggles every time she walks past it in her own home.

One of the most exciting parts of our design consultation was looking down a completely blank hallway. Rather than rushing to fill it all at once, we planted the seeds for an evolving family legacy.

We curated three starter storytelling pieces, chosen with tones that flowed seamlessly with the home’s color palette. The vision? As their little one grows, learns to walk, and welcomes future milestones—or future siblings—this hallway will grow with them. Each new chapter will earn its place on the wall, turning a simple corridor into a living timeline that tells their family’s story with every step.
