5 Tips to come up with a your dogs name

Recently I had the joy of photographing several dogs! One of the days in my studio in Longmont, it was 9 in a row. That’s right. NINE! And one of the sessions was four dogs at a time. Needless to say, IT WAS A PARTY! We did bubbles and had treats and all the tricks to get them to sit and roll and STAY for milliseconds and I have had a BLAST editing them.

And of course I loved all the names!

Here are 5 tips for coming up with a name for your dog!

  1. Consider Personality and Appearance: Observe your dog’s behavior and physical traits. A lively, energetic dog might suit a name like “Bolt” or “Zippy,” while a calm, serene dog could be called “Whisper” or “Breeze.”
  2. Keep it Simple: Choose a name that is easy to say and preferably one or two syllables long. This makes it easier for your dog to recognize and respond to it.
  3. Avoid Confusing Names: Ensure the name doesn’t sound like common commands or other names in your household. For example, “Kit” might be too similar to “sit.”
  4. Test the Name: Say the name out loud and see how it feels. Use it in different tones and situations to check if it sounds right and if your dog responds well to it.
  5. Personal Significance: Consider names that have personal meaning to you, such as names from favorite books, movies, or places you love. This adds a personal touch and can make the name more special to you.
