Senior year moves fast. Between college applications, varsity schedules, club events, and homecoming, the school calendar fills up before the first leaf even turns along the Front Range.
One of the questions families ask most often is: “When should we actually book senior pictures?”
Whether you love sun-drenched summer golden hour, mountain wildflowers, crisp autumn foliage, or an urban vibe downtown, timing your session properly ensures you meet school deadlines without the panic.
Colorado Senior Session Timing: Season by Season
Summer (June – August): The Stress-Free Sweet Spot
Summer before senior year is easily the most popular window, and for good reason:
- Zero school stress: No juggling tests, rehearsals, or sports practices.
- Warm golden hour & lush greenery: Mountain parks, open open-space trails, and riparian creeks are at their vibrant peak.
- Tons of turnaround time: Your gallery is delivered well before fall yearbook deadlines hit.
Fall (September – October): Iconic Autumn Color
Fall is the crown jewel of the Rocky Mountain foothills.
- Crisp air and warm tones: Golden cottonwoods, warm grasses, and rich layering (sweaters, boots, jackets).
- The catch: These dates book out months in advance, and tree color changes quickly. Plus, with fall deadlines looming, sessions must take place early in the season to allow time for image processing, proofing, and submission.
Winter & Spring (November – April): Urban Edges & Grad Kickoffs
- Late fall/winter: Perfect for modern, stylish indoor studio sessions or downtown brick alleys with structured outerwear.
- Spring: Great for a fresh “cap-and-gown” kickoff or celebrating college commitments. (Note: Spring sessions miss standard fall yearbook deadlines, but work wonderfully as personal milestone celebrations.)
