I had the privilege of photographing a senior portrait session at the iconic Chautauqua Park in Boulder with Wyatt. If you’ve never been, you’re missing out on one of the most picturesque spots in the state, especially with the stunning Flatirons as a backdrop.
The session was timed perfectly during that dreamy magic hour, when the sun casts a golden glow over everything it touches. There’s something truly magical about the warm light at this time of day—it’s like nature’s own softbox, creating the most flattering and ethereal lighting for portraits. I love the epic moments we captured with the sunset.
A little tip from me to you: evenings are absolutely the best time to photograph, especially in the fall when the colors are vibrant and the air is crisp and the warm light catches on the dry grass. And if you’re planning a session at a popular spot like Chautauqua Park, aim for a weekday. Trust me, the park is much quieter, and you’ll have a better chance of snagging those perfect shots without a crowd in the background.
Here’s a fun fact for all you adventure lovers—Boulder has become quite the hub for mountain climbing enthusiasts! The town’s close proximity to the Rockies and its variety of climbing routes make it a favorite among climbers from all over the world. So, while you’re there for your portrait session, you might just spot some climbers scaling the Flatirons. It’s a pretty inspiring sight and adds a touch of adventure to the already breathtaking scenery.
If you’re looking to capture your senior year with a touch of nature’s grandeur, Boulder is the place to be. The combination of the stunning landscape, the magical light, and the serene atmosphere during weekdays is unbeatable. I can’t wait to share more beautiful moments from our sessions with all of you. Until next time, keep shining and smiling! Schedule a call here to set up your senior portrait session in Boulder or Boulder County!
